My name is Erica Martyn, I am a work at home mum to my school boy Harry and toddler Lottie! I have a husband called Martin and a naughty but very sweet but very old Yorkshire Terrier called Mr Biggles. We live in rural town of Gillingham (Dorset, UK), I’m still learning heaps, while at the same time juggling home life, finances and the needs and demands of my growing family and my customers. As an Artist, Illustrator and creative designer I have a passion for all things handmade and love to design and make a variety of unique handmade products for the little one’s in your life!
Since a young child I have always been creative with a passion for drawing and making things! After studying art & design and theatre studies at college in Hampshire, I then furthered my education by moving to Liverpool to study theatrical costume interpretation alongside attending professional dance school The Merseyside Dance and Drama Centre part time.
I have been very lucky to have explored many different creative roles, including being a theatrical costume interpreter for theatre/television, dance/fitness teacher and personal trainer working with the New York City Ballet and Nike to become one of their UK specialist dance teachers, a graphic designer for a UK health club/ property developer alongside working as an illustrator and creative designer for a craft distributor over a 10 year period.
After having my first child back in February 2010 I began to work on developing my own business so that I could combine being a full time mum with my passion for sewing, illustration and creative design. Over the past few years Odds & Soxlets has developed into my creative design house for my unique CE marked handmade toys and keepsakes alongside being a supplier to the handmade toy community with a variety of noise inserts. Please take a look around my website to find out more about my toys and noise inserts.
I now combine Odds & Soxlets whilst studying for an ISTD diploma in Tap Dance Education with The Judith Hockaday School of Dance and Drama alongside working part-time as an Tap Teacher for our local dance school TLW Dance alongside various other creative duties such as graphic design, costume and prop making, hair and theatrical make-up and photography.
Here are a few photo’s from our dance school’s The Nutcracker performance with various elements of my work…
