With all the wonderful events happening in Great Britain over the spring/summer of 2012 I decided to have a little re-design of my website and social networking pages to celebrate that my products are ”handmade in great britain”. With the economy as it is so much of the British high street is vanishing with big chains taking over leaving so many street bare with very few independent shops.
I have always loved handmade products and over the past few years so many people are turning their hobbies into business ventures with high quality handmade toys, gifts, collectables and so forth which as many of you know is how ‘Odds & Soxlets’ started too. I would one day love to have a handmade gift shop with my own handmade creations and those of fellow artisans too however it is sad to say that this is just a dream at present and a long way off being a reality!
For the time being I will continue to run my small business on-line and hopefully later in the year will have the opportunity to do more craft fairs too! These past few weeks I have been busy working on a new collection of fabric ‘dinkie dollies’ to be sold both as original dolls and also to become patterns for other crafters to make and sell too. For my first few dollies I thought what better opportunity to make a few limited edition one’s to commemorate this years events.
Introducing the first of my ”British Beau Dinkie Dollies” Poppy…
All of my collectable dollies are lovingly handmade to my own patterns and creative imagination! Poppy has a tan coloured fabric body with red and polka dot matching dress and knickers. Poppy has a wine coloured chunky woolen hair, in a half ponytail with a modern union ribbon and button accessories. She has matching polka dot shoes with a white felt base and union button on the strap.
I use a combination of the sewing machine and hand stitching to create these little dolls and they are stuffed with hollow fiber stuffing. They stand approx. 13? tall and are just under 8? when seated. All of my dollies are collectables, so no two dolls will ever be completely identical making them a truly unique keepsake!
